Our story
It started with posters
Aletheia didn’t begin as an organisation. It began in 2019 with young people drawing and decorating health posters to teach their peers, especially about female health, the things nobody was explaining. Growing up between Asia and Australia in a culturally diverse, immigrant family, our founder saw how often health went unspoken. In June 2025, that grassroots work became The Aletheia Project: a structured, youth-led not-for-profit. Our impact counts every year of it.

Mackenzie Li, Founder & Executive Director
Mackenzie is a Melbourne-based youth advocate working across health literacy, health equity, education and youth voice. She founded Aletheia after years of watching peers, particularly CALD and queer young people, feel dismissed, misunderstood or unsure where to turn.
Her work has been recognised with the 2026 Zonta International Young Women in Leadership Award, the 2026 Bright Future Prize (global winner) and Deakin Rising Star Youth Achievement recognition. She is a member of the PROJECT ROCKIT National Youth Collective and a Consent Labs Youth Ambassador.
Aletheia (ἀλήθεια) is the Ancient Greek word for truth. So much of young people’s health is shaped by what goes unsaid: taboos, silence and symptoms that get brushed off. Telling the truth about health, and being believed when you do, is where change starts.
We are auspiced by the City of Melbourne and PROJECT ROCKIT, and we are proud to work with:
