✦What it means at Aletheia
Youth decision-making means young people don’t just receive health education, they shape it. At Aletheia, young people decide what we make, how it’s worded and where it goes, and we carry their views into the rooms where health and education decisions are made. It’s how we live our tagline: designed for youth, by youth.
✦Why it matters
Health services and policies are usually designed for young people by adults. When the people most affected aren’t in the room, services miss what actually stops young people getting care: shame, confusing pathways, not being believed. Young people are the experts in their own lives.
✦Three ways we do it
| What happens | Who’s in the room | |
|---|---|---|
| Youth workshops | Young people learn about their health through our Five Pillars, practise speaking up, and their questions shape our next resources | Young people, facilitated by the Aletheia team |
| Youth roundtables | Open conversations where young people set the agenda on the health issues that matter to them | Young people, sometimes alongside leaders and practitioners |
| Youth consultation | We gather young people’s views and bring them to government, councils and youth organisations | Young people, then decision-makers |
✦What changes because of it
What young people tell us in these spaces becomes new resources, blog topics and research questions, and is passed on to the decision-makers who asked.
Our Youth Executive Council is the leadership side of the same idea: young people aged 14 to 25 from across Australia who set Aletheia’s own direction.
Organisations can partner with us or request young people’s input through our Partnership & Sponsorship Enquiry form.
