Aletheia, everywhere young people are.
by youth, for youth, wherever you liveThe Aletheia Project is a youth-led health literacy not-for-profit, based in Melbourne. Our chapters are local teams of young people who bring our free resources, workshops and youth voice to their own communities, with HQ right beside them.

Aletheia, run by young people who know your community
A chapter is a local, youth-led Aletheia team in a country, city, university or school. It’s part of Aletheia, not a separate organisation borrowing our name. Every chapter does four things.
-
Distribute our resources
Recruit local volunteers who get our free resources into schools, youth centres, clinics, libraries, universities and community groups.
-
Create local resources
Adapt our resources for your place: your health system, services, help lines, languages and culture. Always sourced, youth reviewed and signed off by HQ.
-
Host workshops
Form a small Chapter Council of young people who run health literacy workshops in schools and communities.
-
Collaborate with HQ
Share one brand, one set of lines we hold and one team: monthly check-ins, sign-off, reporting, and joint features across our channels.
You bring local knowledge. We bring everything else.
You don’t need money, experience or a health degree. HQ in Melbourne gives every chapter the tools, training and backing to do this well and safely.

The lines every chapter holds
These keep young people safe and keep Aletheia trustworthy, everywhere we work.
- Youth-ledChapters are led by young people. Adults can support, but they don’t lead.
- Ages 14 to 25Everyone in a chapter is aged 14 to 25, just like everyone at Aletheia.
- Health literacy, not medical adviceWe help young people understand and navigate health. We never diagnose or recommend treatment.
- Non-political and non-religiousWe share accurate information and welcome everyone, whatever they believe.
- Safeguarding and consent firstParent or guardian consent for under-18s, safe online and in-person practices, and consent before any photo or story.
- Never overstateA shared post isn’t a partnership. Honest numbers only, and only HQ agrees formal partnerships.
- Sign-off before releaseNew resources, public posts and any use of the Aletheia name and brand are approved by HQ first.
From “I want to do this” to your first workshop
Most chapters go from signed agreement to launch in about 90 days. School terms and exams matter more than a calendar, so go at your pace.

About 45 minutesA relaxed video chat about your community, what chapters do, the lines we hold, and whether the timing is right for you.
Chapter agreement and onboarding
Before day 1Sign a short chapter agreement (with a parent or guardian if you’re under 18), read the guide, and get set up with your chapter folder and first check-in.
Build your Chapter Council
Days 1 to 30Recruit a small team of two to eight young people, give everyone a clear role, and hold your first Council meeting.
Localise and plan
Days 1 to 60Do a local needs scan, check your help lines, map the places young people are, and start reaching out.
Launch
Days 61 to 90Run your first workshop, share an HQ-approved launch post, and get listed on our website.

-
School teams and school chapters
A small student team, a supportive staff member and the school’s agreement. Share resources and run workshops in your own school.
-
Partner organisations

-
Translation volunteers
Help translate or review our resources so more young people and families can read them in their own language. Always by people, always reviewed.
-

Pitch research to the Youth Research Journal: research by young people, peer reviewed by young people and properly credited.
-
Guest features
Share your story or your community’s work as a guest on our podcast, newsletter, blog or socials.
Young people aged 14 to 25, anywhere
- You care about young people’s health and want to do something about it.
- You can give around 3 to 6 hours a week for about a year.
- You can find at least one other person to start with you (we can help).
- You’re happy to check in with HQ each month and ask for help.
No experience needed
- You don’t need to be a health expert or to have run anything before. Many of our chapter leaders hadn’t.
- Under 18? You can absolutely start one. We’ll need a parent or guardian’s consent, and a supportive adult such as a teacher or youth worker can help with things like venues.
- Adult supporters support. Young people lead.
Frequently asked questions
Does it cost anything to start a chapter?
No. Starting and running a chapter is free. Our resources, templates, training and HQ support are all free, and most chapter work (emails, digital resources, online meetings, school workshops) costs nothing. Any spending, such as printing, is agreed with HQ first.
How long does it take to set up?
After your intro call and chapter agreement, most chapters launch in about 90 days: a month to build your Council and systems, a month of first outreach, and a month to launch and run your first workshop. Exams and holidays come first, so it’s fine to take longer.
Do I need a team already?
No. You can get in touch on your own. You’ll need at least one other person to start with you, and we’ll help you recruit your Chapter Council. Two committed people achieve more than eight half-interested ones.
Can my school start one?
Yes. School chapters are small student teams that bring Aletheia into their own school, with a supportive staff member and agreement from school leadership. HQ approves each school chapter, and the school’s own safeguarding rules apply alongside ours.
Can I use the Aletheia name and logo?
Yes, once your chapter agreement is signed and your chapter name is agreed with HQ. You’ll get our brand kit and style guide. Until then, please don’t use the name or logo, and new resources and public posts are always signed off by HQ before they go out.
What if I’m under 18?
You can absolutely start a chapter. We’ll need consent from your parent or guardian, and some things (like booking venues or running in-person events) may need a trusted adult involved, such as a teacher or youth worker. They support you; you lead.
Can we create our own resources?
Yes. Most chapters start by localising our existing resources, for example a local edition of the Health Navigator or a local help-line card. Every resource is sourced, reviewed by young people, accuracy checked and signed off by HQ before release. If your community needs something brand new, pitch it to us: it might become a resource for everyone.
What language can our chapter work in?
Chapters work in the languages their communities use, and we’d love more translations. Translations are made from the final approved version, done by a person, checked by a second fluent speaker and signed off by HQ. We never publish unreviewed machine translation.
Who owns the content we make?
Chapter resources are Aletheia resources: they carry the Aletheia name and brand, are released through HQ and can help young people in other places too. Everyone who helps make them is credited, in the way they’re comfortable with. The details are set out in your chapter agreement.
What if we need to pause?
Life changes, and pausing is not failure. Tell HQ as early as you can, and we’ll help you finish or hand over commitments, thank your volunteers and let organisations know. HQ keeps your chapter’s materials safe so a future team can restart it.
Bring Aletheia to where you live
Tell us a little about you and your community. We’ll set up a relaxed chat and take it from there, together.
