✦What it is
Our next project: a youth-run journal publishing health research by young people, with its own editor and youth peer reviewers, so young researchers get a genuine review process and a place to publish.
✦Why it matters
Most young people never see their work reviewed or published until university, if at all. A youth journal builds research skills, gives young people’s findings a credible platform, and grows the evidence on what young people need from their health.
✦How it will work
- Open call for submissions on youth health topics.
- The editor checks fit and ethics, including consent and safe messaging.
- Two youth peer reviewers give feedback. Where one is available, a volunteer research mentor may also advise.
- The author revises, and the editor makes the final call.
- Aletheia’s director and executive team review every final version before it’s published.
- Published online, free to read, credited in full to the author.
✦Roles we’ll be recruiting
| Role | Who | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| Editor | Aged 14 to 25 | Manages submissions and makes the final call on each paper |
| Peer reviewer | Aged 14 to 25 | Gives authors clear, constructive feedback |
| Research mentor | 18 or over, with research experience | Advises on method and evidence where available. Mentor support is tentative, and not every paper will be reviewed by a mentor |
✦Who it’s for
Young researchers aged 14 to 25, and readers who want to hear young people’s evidence first-hand.
✦Where it’s at
In planning.
Authors can register their interest through the Youth Research Author Form. Editors, peer reviewers and mentors can apply through the Journal Team Form.
